I have brown spots on my skin. And red spots. And old acne scars that seem more noticeable now than ever before! What can I do?
Age spots, visible capillaries, wrinkles, and scars all grow more prominent as we age. Collagen and elastin production – the building blocks of our youthful skin – decline as we get older. Without them, our faces show time. Fortunately, laser resurfacing can stimulate the body’s collagen and elastin production to restore and rejuvenate your skin. In as little as one laser resurfacing treatment at our Vancouver, WA clinic, you can awaken your skin’s own youthful appearance.
What is a laser resurfacing?
Laser resurfacing uses a fractional CO2 Pixel laser from Alma Lasers to rejuvenate your skin. With its multiple laser pulses, the Pixel makes pinpoint perforations in your skin. This microneedling stimulates new collagen and elastin production as your skin heals. The result is smoother skin texture, more even skin tone, and reduced visibility of wrinkles.
How does laser resurfacing compare to other facial cosmetic treatments?
Compared to topical or injectable cosmetic treatments, laser treatment is a more aggressive therapy to combat wrinkles, discoloration, and scarring. Whereas PRP injection therapy, BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers are used only on specific areas of your face, laser resurfacing is conducted all over your face to ensure an even and natural effect.
Because it’s a more aggressive treatment, the effects last longer than injectable cosmetic treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers. Not surprisingly, the recovery time and preparation are more intensive, as well.
After injectable therapies, you can return right back to your life without missing a step, but laser resurfacing will require an afternoon at home, maybe with ice, and your skin will be visibly red and aggravated for up to a week. You’ll have post-treatment skin care requirements following your treatment.
What does a laser resurfacing treatment entail?
To begin your laser resurfacing treatment, we’ll prep your skin with a treatment-enhancing cream and apply a topical anesthetic. When you’re relaxed and ready, your treatment begins. We guide the laser over your entire face, which takes about half an hour.
When you’ve completed the treatment, your skin will feel warm, like you have a minor sunburn. We will discuss the aftercare you’ll need to complete to ensure best results, including moisturizing frequently and avoiding sun exposure. You can apply ice or cool, damp cloths to your face once you’re resting at home. Warmth or sunburn pain should disappear by the next day, but over the next week or so, your skin will begin to peel. It may stay red for up to a week.
Who should try laser resurfacing?
If prolific age spots, wrinkles, or scars are your nemesis, then laser treatment could be the right treatment for you.
